How do border controls shape anti-modern slavery in the UK, including faith responses? This is the question addressed in our article published in the journal Environment and Planning C: Politics and Space in 2023.
This article draws on data across all participant groups: trafficked persons, staff working in support organisations, civil society and government representatives to offer a multi-dimensional perspective on the need to expand the scope of attention to 'everyday bordering' to anti-slavery initiatives. We argue that it is not only those entering and exiting severe exploitation whose lives are heavily circumscribed by border control imperatives, but also those working within care environments, and those seeking to influence support and policy at the level of advocacy, influencing and within government.
